Ivona Pleskonja (1974) belongs to the newest generation of representatives of the “New Image” movement. The exhibition titled “ONE WORLD” will present a selection from her new cycle of paintings. Monumental in scale and majestic in their portrait-like conception, these works suggest a process of carefully constructed “vessels” for a figure—a saintly image or an imaginary warrior of our time.

From the "Heroes" cycle, 2007, Jelena Krivokapić writes: "...The faces that parade before our eyes are individuals from the artist's immediate surroundings, herself, or selected figures—role models from an alternative urban universe and in a way, alter egos of the artist... with a message accompanied by a meditative process of painting saints (heroes), or inscribing the presence of self-awareness during the very act of creation (by the artist), most prominent in the series of (self)portraits Heroes..."

From the "Source" cycle, 2007, Aleksandra Mirčić writes: "...All the characters in her works have merged into one strong, expressive male figure. From a billboard-sized canvas, he looks down on us like a god... Ivona Pleskonja reminds us that, according to old legends, humans were created by gods from the earth, but are also shaped by life's hardships that drag them across that same earth. Yet man always rises, brushes off the dust, and bravely gazes into the sky."
