“Framed” in radical frontality, with a hieratic posture, her figures command the viewer’s full attention. They represent the harmony of body, mind, and spirit, compassion for humankind—individuals from the artist's closest environment or selected figures of “the other,” role models of an alternative universe, and in a way, the artist’s alter egos.

From the "Heroes" cycle, 2007, Jelena Krivokapić writes: "...The faces that parade before our eyes are individuals from the artist's immediate surroundings, herself, or selected figures—role models from an alternative urban universe and in a way, alter egos of the artist... with a message accompanied by a meditative process of painting saints (heroes), or inscribing the presence of self-awareness during the very act of creation (by the artist), most prominent in the series of (self)portraits Heroes..."

From the "Source" cycle, 2007, Aleksandra Mirčić writes: "...All the characters in her works have merged into one strong, expressive male figure. From a billboard-sized canvas, he looks down on us like a god... Ivona Pleskonja reminds us that, according to old legends, humans were created by gods from the earth, but are also shaped by life's hardships that drag them across that same earth. Yet man always rises, brushes off the dust, and bravely gazes into the sky."

Ivona Pleskonja (1974) belongs to the newest generation of New Image representatives. She earned her Master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts (FLU) in 2001 in the class of Professor Anđelka Bojović, painting department. She was a scholarship holder of the Madlena Janković Foundation as a young talent. A member of ULUS with the status of an independent artist since 1998.
